In 2007, I hosted a "Dare to Care for Kids Tour" as a means to shine a light on the needs of children in the Springfield area and showcase organizations that were working to meet those needs. The three-day tour was open to public, and attracted participants from a wide variety of backgrounds. Those who attended came away with firsthand knowledge of the challenges facing Springfield's children. At the same time, they learned more about the work being done by numerous organizations on behalf of these children, and how they could aid those efforts. Through this event and others like it, I hope to strengthen the bonds that tie us together and foster greater community involvement in efforts that benefit us all.
My heartfelt thanks to the following organizations, without whose involvement the tour would not have been a success:
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Southwest Missouri
Isabel's House, the Crisis Nursery of the Ozarks
Judevine Center-Southwest Missouri Autism Project
Developmental Center of the Ozarks
Burrell Behavioral Health
